The Chase Collegiate Theater Presents She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition

She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition is a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games. Acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all in a new edition, created specifically for High School performing groups. The Highlander Theater Company will present two performances at Chase Collegiate School - Fulkerson Arts Center, December 13th and 14th at 8:00 p.m.

Chase Collegiate School's Highlander Theater Company will present Qui Nguyen’s fantasy play, “She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition”. A mash-up of ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Saved by the Bell’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’, the play tells the story of a high schooler, Agnes Evans, as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Dungeons & Dragons expert, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s D&D notebook, she finds herself catapulted into an epic journey of discovery and action-packed adventure! In the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge, this high-octane dramatic comedy is laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, legendary sword fights, and ’90s pop culture.
The cast includes Agnes (Emma Denihan ‘20, Waterbury), Lilith (Isabella Kopecky ‘20, Waterbury), Orcus (Maggie McGuire ‘20, New Milford), Evil Tina (Fiona Ma ‘20, Handan), Narrator (Teigan DaCunha ‘22, Southbury), Miles (Alan Liu ‘21, Shanghai), Steve (Alex Lin ‘23, Fuzhou), Evil Gabbi (Alexandria Richard ‘23, Waterbury), Warrior (Daisy Chen ‘21, Wuxi), Tilly (Emily Segal ‘21, Southbury), Vera (Jasmine Rossi ‘22, Waterbury) Kaliope (Lucy Bird ‘22, Terryville), Warrior (Nicholas Lockwood ‘21, Cheshire), Chuck (Robbie Altamirano ‘21, Watertown), Warrior (Ruby Li ‘21, Ordos), and Farrah the Faerie (Sarah Svitlik ‘21, Watertown).
David Sirois, new Part-Time Theater Faculty and the director of this production, has been a member of the Chase community since 2017. “Directing this production has been a dream due to the level of talent from the students and faculty. The script allows for so much creativity from every theatrical design element. It’s also a wonderful coincidence that the time the play is set, the mid-90s, I was the age my students are now. So, this show has a built-in uniqueness that I think will be noticeable to the audience. I can’t wait for people to experience it.”
Theater Production Students include cast members Fiona Ma, Daisy Tang, and Alan Liu. Joseph Scarpati, ‘20 (Prospect), Colton Harte, ‘23 and Evan Harte ‘20 (Cheshire), Kitty Wang ‘20 (Beijing), Adam Retallick ‘20 (Watertown) and Nathaniel Zembruski ‘21 (Naugatuck) are the Light and Sound Crew. Nicholas Welton ‘21 (Southbury) takes on the role of Stage Manager and will lead the team of Running Crew members Eric Li ‘23 (Shenzhen), Hee Mang Carlson ‘23 (Naugatuck), and Connor McCormack ‘21 (Middlebury). Nate Stellmach ‘24 (Waterbury), William Shi ‘21 (Shanghai), and Avon Wei ‘22 focused on Set Design and Build, while Kaitlyn Green ‘21 (Waterbury) specialized in Makeup Design and Jamal Clarke ‘20 (Waterbury), Front of House operations. All skills and talents developed under the direction of Arts Department Faculty members Brian Paturzo, Visual Arts, and Lisa Carlson, Costuming.
